Bad luck or luck at Mount Panorama

After two earlier attempts Peter was determined to start at the Bathurst 12HR at Mount Panorama Australia. The Lago Racing crew had prepared the Reiter Gallardo GT3 to a very high level and with support from Reiter Engineering it looked that everything was in place for a solid result. After some issues concerning homologation which cost the team valuable track time they managed to put the car on the third row of the grid in sixth position.

Peter took for the first time the start at 6.15 in the morning, for a grueling 12 hours under, what would be, scorching conditions. However, it never came that far, as after 18mins in the race Peter hit a kangaroo which damaged the Gallardo so badly that they were forced to retire. After, initially, a good start Peter held his position and was running in sixth place behind a Mercedes, getting settled in and was on the third lap the fastest car in the race.

Coming down to "The Chase" with 280km/h and braking hard suddenly tape left by a tv crew member came between the pedal box, distracting the driver. The Gallardo backed of a little from the Mercedes as they started the next lap.

After mountain straight they turned right for starting the steep climb as suddenly a kangaroo jumped across the track. Peter had no chance and hit the animal head on, causing severe damage to the Lamborghini, which resulted in an early retirement.

After the race Peter said: Everybody said that I was very unlucky, but if you didn't have bad luck, you would have no luck!
